A guide to everything you need to know about the Breeders Cup on Saturday

These are hands down the two best days in horse racing. The Breeders Cup. Best of the best, two day race. I wanted to put together a little guide like I have done in the past. Review some races, make picks, and shoot horse racing, a sport I love. It’s kind of weird in horse racing because waiting late to bet, you’re always tinkering with a pick-4, you might hedge a little for whatever reason. So we’re going to make choices for today and hope for the best.

Beautiful, perfect, Keeneland. I had a friend in college who once told me if heaven isn’t as beautiful as Keeneland doesn’t send me there. I agree. A US National Historic Landmark built in 1936. I have yet to get to Saratoga and the California tracks, but Keeneland is hard to beat. It’s just the perfect setup for horse racing.

Not as perfect as yesterday but still a decent day. Warm. The wind will be there but nothing extreme. The rain should also hold back.

This is the big day. A ton of Cup races. We will try to add a little on each race. All ratings and photos are from our friends at Hollywood Races. Download the app here.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (11:50 East, Race 3)

CeCe won this race last year and is coming back as one of the favorites. If he wins, it will only be the second horse to win consecutively in this race. People will probably know the names of Echo Zulu, Lady Rocket, and Edgeway. The favorite will be Chad Brown and Irad on Goodnight Olive.

The best choice – 13. Echo Zulu

Use in Exotics – 4. CeCe, 6. Chain of Love, 7. Mandatory, 8. Goodnight Olive

Breeders Cup Turf Sprint (Race 4, 12:29 East)

One of the funniest races in horse racing. A quick sprint of 5.5 furlongs. Now the power here is Golden Pal. We know everything about this horse. It’s a monster. Along with Cave Rock and Flightline, it was the one many would choose in horizontal bets. He’s also the defending champion here. Chances are Golden Pal will trigger at 4/5 or something.

The best choice – 8. The Golden Buddy

Use in Exotics – 5. Go Bears Go, 6. Highfield Princess, 11. Casa Creed

Breeders Cup Dirt Mile (Race 5, 1:10 p.m. EST)

Two well-known horses in Simplification and Cyberknife. A footballer in Three Technique. We’ve seen horses win this and really break out – including Knicks Go. Bing bong. One thing to note here is that the 3 year olds were the best in this race. Something to watch out for when betting. The Laurel River scrape here really opens it up.

The best choice – 9. Cyberknife

Use in Exotics – 7. Cody’s Wish, 3. Pipeline, 2. Simplification

Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Race 6, 1:50 p.m. EST)

I’m a big fan of what Moira did. But the thing to note here, this run was dominated by one of two midfielders. Foreign horses with a history of winners and/or Chad Brown horses. Brown has won 4 of the last 10 of those races and has a damn good one in Italian. The foreign horses won the other 6 races.

The best choice – 10. Virginia Joy

Use in Exotics – 3. Nashwa, 5. Tuesday, 11. In Italian, 12. Moira

Breeders Cup Sprint (Race 7, 2:30 p.m. EST)

The horse everyone is going to talk about in this race is Jackie’s Warrior. It’s going to be a HEAVY favorite and in this category of Flightline, Golden Pal, etc. But there is a plot here. You could choose Jackie’s Warrior and it would make sense. Aloha West won this race in 2021. American Theorem won two stakes races this year. There are challengers.

The best choice – 9. Warrior Jackie

Use in Exotics – 4. American Theorem, 5. Aloha West

Breeders Cup Mile (Race 8, 3:10 p.m. EST)

Do you remember the name of Modern Games? Yeah, that’s the horse that gave us the worst beating in horse racing history last year to close Friday’s Breeders Cup. He is a good horse that is 2 for 2 in major races and won a Breeders Cup race last year. Charlie Appleby is one hell of a trainer who is also the defending champion from a year ago. Leaders tend not to win this race as well.

The best choice – 4. Modern Games

Use in Exotics – 1. Pogo, 3. Dreamlooper, 13. Kinross, 14. Inland Spending

Breeders Cup Cattail (Race 9, 3:55 p.m. EST)

This race should be great because we have loaded horses in this race. Nest is an almost perfect horse. She even won at Keeneland in April. Malathaat is 3 for 3 at Keeneland in his career. Clariere has been a lifelong rival to Malathaat and has two wins. Again, a ton of intrigue in this race.

The best choice – 1. Malathaat

Use in Exotics – 4. Clairere, 6. Nest

Breeders Cup Turf (Race 10, 4:40 p.m. EST)

Note that since 2007 only three American horses have won this race. Tends to be a packed race and outsiders dominated it. Aiden O’Brien is a star in this race, winning six times. Dude just knows how to prep horses for turf. The American star is War Like Goddess and it’s an easy reason to see why. I also like having Joel on it.

The best choice – 3. Stone Age

Use in Exotics – 2. War Like Goddess, 7. Nations Pride, 5. Rebels Romance, 11. Mishriff

Breeders Cup Classic (Race 11, 5:40 p.m. EST)

It’s the big one. The biggest race on the map and we’re gonna have a heavy

It’s the big one. The biggest race of the weekend and we have a big favorite in Flightline. The horse is undefeated, 5 for 5 in his career and will probably leave around 3/5 or so. Even more absurd? The horse won its five races by a combined 62 3/4 lengths. Absurd. Monster horse. Now who can beat him? Life is good has three bet wins. Rich Strike was the huge winner of the Underdog Derby. Hot Rod Charlie has always been a good horse and a fan favorite.

The best choice – 4. Line of flight

Use in Exotics – 1. Taiba, 6. Epicenter

Alright, here are the choices. Like I said, I’m writing this a bit early so I can tinker. The beauty of horse racing is that you can bet anything. I love horizontal bets – Pick 4/5. But if there’s a race I like, I’ll add an exacta. If there is a horse that I like, I will use it upstairs in a triathlon. We dealt a Pick 4 winner yesterday who paid $449 on a $54 bet. Not bad. Cave Rock’s win would have meant we all picked 5 and 4 at home. Brutal.

Consider these early builds.

Top pick 4 – will try to beat Jackie’s Warrior and Golden Pal for cheap

Late Pick 5 – Single Flightline

Late Pick 4 – Single Flightline

Late Pick 4 – Beat Flightline
