Fun Guide to Maranda’s Weekend April 22-24


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The weekend is here, and so is the warm weather. It will be a great weekend to spend time outdoors enjoying our planet and celebrating Earth Day. There are great activities going on around West Michigan, including fun at nature centers, along the shores of the lake, and even at our zoo to spend time with the animals. Maranda has a full list of family fun for this weekend.


It’s a Party for the Planet this Saturday at the John Ball Zoo. From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., families can come and distribute all the animals and celebrate the beauty of the Earth. While you’re there, you can learn all about conservation and help clean up the community. Don’t miss this great opportunity to appreciate our planet.

Frederik Meijer Gardens is doing something more fun for families this Saturday. To celebrate Earth Day, they organize a party in the Lena Meijer kindergarten. Families can look forward to nature walks, interactive stories, live Michigan animal demonstrations, and collaborative nature weaving on our giant loom.

Enjoy nature completely free on Earth Day. The Kalamazoo Nature Center invites families to come explore their trails completely free of charge. All they ask is that you celebrate Earth Day by spending time outdoors. They will have additional fun activities to do during your stay, including special races, showcases and hikes.

If you like Star Wars, now is the time to go to Terry Roller Hall. It’s Star Wars Day. Enjoy this fun themed skating event with fun music, game snacks and more. Plus you can enjoy fun games, giveaways and of course lots of photo opportunities, you won’t want to miss this!

Camp Newaygo Enchanted Forest

Take a step into the enchanted forest at Camp Newaygo. Miniature fairy houses and tiny gnome houses will line the forest trails for families to explore. Enjoy a snack and crafts while exploring a magical world. This weekend only at Campy Newaygo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Earth Day celebration by the lake

See you at the Lakeshore this Saturday to celebrate our planet. In Grand Haven’s Central Park. Start having fun with a “green walk”. Bikes, roller skates, skateboards and feet are all welcome. It’s a walk for anything that doesn’t use fossil fuels. They continue the celebration with an Earth Day fair throughout the park.

World Book Day in Grand Haven Central Park

Celebrate World Book Day this Sunday in Grand Haven Central Park. Brilliance Publishing is providing thousands of books to the community for free during the World Book Day event. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., families can come and have fun and celebrate the love of reading and a good book!

Nelis’ Dutch Village 2022 Opening Day

It’s officially the opening day of Nelis’ Dutch Village. The rides, kids farm, play areas and more are officially open for the season and to kick things off they are celebrating their annual Community Day! It’s a great opportunity for family fun and giving back.

Family movies

Head to any Celebration Cinema this weekend to enjoy their family movie series Flicks. This weekend, families can enjoy the movie, Sing 2. Kids under twelve can enjoy the movie completely free, and all others are only five dollars. This fun movie will have the whole family laughing. Check out this affordable fun anytime this weekend. Frederik Meijer Gardens Butterflies are blooming

The butterflies are officially in the gardens until April 30. Families can explore 60 different butterfly species as they navigate the gardens. Butterflies from Asia, Africa and Central and South America will again take flight in the warm and lush environment of the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. John Ball Zoo and GRAM Member Exchange

The John Ball Zoo and Grand Rapids Museum of Art come together for a month-long membership exchange, this means John Ball Zoo members can present their membership card for free admission to GRAM, and vice poured.
