Sarah Brown receives her Queens Guide Award from the County Commissioner

Guides volunteer Sarah Brown, who runs the 1st Crowborough Guides, has been awarded the Queens Guide Award. This is the highest honor given to Girl Guides and was presented at a county event at Blacklands Farm in East Sussex.

On Saturday June 11, Sarah attended the Right Royal Reign event where over 2000 members were in attendance. She was later given her Queens Guide Award by the County Commissioner.

To get her award, Sarah had to complete a huge selection of tasks and items. Sarah is also Chief Ranger with the Crowborough District Rangers. She volunteered in an international guide camp ‘Olave 2019’. As part of the international element, Sarah led a team of Rangers, aged 14-18, to Uganda as part of a service project as part of a LaSER Expedition (Girlguiding London and South East Region ).

While presenting her award, Sarah also participated in virtual events with Girlguiding as she worked on the award during the Covid-19 closures. She learned to sew with a sewing machine as part of the new skill element and worked on creating face masks. As well as pursuing zero waste living and creating an activity pack for use by local Girl Guide groups.

Sarah said: “I really enjoyed completing my Queen’s Guide award. I loved that it gave me the opportunity to participate in so many different events through Girlguiding. One of my favorite parts was leading a group in Uganda in 2019, it was an amazing experience.

“I had the added challenge of completing much of my award during the Covid-19 pandemic. Girlguiding has always worked during the pandemic, and I have enjoyed participating in virtual Girlguiding Sussex East events as part of the I’m really proud to get the award and show off my new badge.

“The Queen’s Guide Award is the highest honor that can be achieved in Guiding, it’s wonderful to have it recognized with a Queen’s Certificate. Girlguiding Sussex East’s Right Royal Reign event.”
