Lake County Music Guide – 7.6.22 – The Bloom

0

As I sit down to type this week’s music guide, I confess that I work with half a brain while the other hangs by a thread. I played 4 gigs in 5 days and I’m exhausted. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a labor of love, but tiring all the same. And now I have to run with the stopwatch because I play again this afternoon. I’m glad you all enjoy what I do… It occurred to me that there has been live music in Lake County 7 days a week for the past few weeks. I went through the LCMG archives and confirmed this fact. Quite exciting considering that in many surrounding counties there are few or no live music events. I want to say a big thank you to all of you who have made supporting our small music scene one of your top priorities. WOW! AND WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED! So, without further ado, let’s get started. Here’s the live music guide for the week of 7/6-7/11…

On Wednesday at Smiling Dogs Ranch, get ready for Cross Currents, a jazz band with a difference. Hard to describe, but IMHO reminiscent of Miles Davis (who I once saw open for The Band) – but what do I know? They are really good. But you should go check them out for yourselves… Music is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Invitational Blues Jam at the Hopland Tap with house band, Wendy DeWitt, Kirk Harwood, Pierre Archain and Skip Engle is happening Wednesday night from 7-10. This band is thrilling on its own, but with the addition of some Bay Area locals Blues brand players, this is off the charts. Go see what I mean. Also on tap will be 3 Point Hitch on Saturday at 4:30.

The Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville will present the man who needs no introduction (but I will anyway…) Anthony Neves on Thursday. With an excellent menu and a full bar, Tony is the perfect trio. 6 to 9, Dudes… On Sunday for their Sunday Brunch, Randy Hood will be the featured performer – and is this guy any good! Go see for yourself from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

At the Fults Family Vineyard in Lower Lake, from 4-9 p.m., catch a Thirsty Thursday Live event featuring the music of the Honiee Ants. Good wines, good music – what’s stopping you?!?

On Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. at Adams Springs Golf Course in the Cobb area, the talented Kim Thomas will be joined by vocalist supreme Mary Swehla for what might turn out to be the best music experience you’ll see this week. . Take a step up the mountain and see what I mean…

Mike Guarniero, (hey, that’s me!), will be playing solo acoustics at Happy Gardens Restaurant in Clearlake Oaks on Friday nights from 6-9pm. HGR has some of the best Chinese and Thai, a full bar – and then there’s me. Come eat, have a drink and listen to music…

At the Lakeport Summer Concert Series, it will be a night of reggae as Rising Signs take the stage starting at 6:30. If Reggae is on your list of favorite musical styles, you’ll love this band. Bring a chair or blanket, a picnic or something from a nearby restaurant, then dance to Rising Signs. Irie!

It’s not music related, but still fun – the Lake County Rodeo takes place Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Wearing dangerously tight jeans for this event is optional…

Friday night, Robinson Rancheria in Nice will feature singer/songwriter/guitarist John Paul Hodge rocking his musical magic from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You’ll like what it does. On Saturdays, the incredible Violin on Fire will take your breath away from 9am to 1am. Watch his videos, then watch him!

A special event takes place at the Twin Pine Casino in Middletown when Blues Mistress Extraordinaire Laurie Morvan roars into The LC on Friday and Saturday nights from 9am to 1am. His band will blow your mind, check them out. I think reservations will be necessary as they limit the number of people, but just make sure you are among those numbers – you won’t regret it…

Langtry Winery east of Middletown on Butts Canyon Rd will be hosting their monthly “Summer Vibes” event this time featuring the Fargo Bros from 5-8am. Good wines and good music mean good times…

Richmond Park in the lower Riviera will feature local rockers, The Mark Weston Band, Friday from 8 a.m. to midnight. Maybe even enough water in the lake to arrive by boat. Anyway, Mark et al have always performed well. This guy can play just about any song you ever wanted to hear. Food and full bar only add to the event…

The Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market at the Shannon Ridge Mercantile in Finley will feature locally grown fruits and vegetables, a plethora of local artisan items and an assortment of local honey, hummus (I know, Kim, that’s not a correct word… ;-), locally made oils and vinegars – even balsamic, all made available for purchase while Andy Rossoff provides the music. And all of this happens on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thank you for supporting everything that happens here.

The Clearlake Farmer’s Market will also feature locally grown produce as well as an assortment of artisan items, foodstuffs and more. The musical performance will be provided by The Hats from 9:30 am.

Cache Creek Vineyards east of Clearlake Oaks will host a benefit concert for Gladiators – a K-8 wrestling program. The entire event will be a Luau-themed Hawaiian affair, complete with Hawaiian-style smoked pork and music from Jason Arcilla and the Rhythm Sons of Maui, Hawaii. Luau and Concert tix – $75. Concert only – $35, $25 in advance. Call 707-998-1200 for tix and other information.

The Fabulous Fantastic Freakin’ Fargo Bros will rock the Riv on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. Translation: The Fargo Bros will play at the Riviera Hills Lounge on the Riviera. With an exciting menu, sublime sunsets and an amazing full bar, this could turn out to be an evening to remember… Oh, and there’s karaoke on Fridays from 5:00.

O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport will feature O’Bros’ excellent beers and craft beers, a fine menu, and Saturday nights from 6-9 p.m., great music by Jay Bird. No wonder this has been the go-to destination for a date for as long as I can remember…

Christian country music star Chad Bushnell will continue the summer concert series at the Konocti Vista Casino in Lakeport on Saturday night where he will play from 8:00 p.m. Punters love the odds that it will be a great music event…

Coyote Valley Casino in Redwood Valley is proud to present Carnaval – A Tribute to Santana on Saturdays at 8:00 am. Doors open at 6:30 a.m. Call the casino for more information.

The Barn in Clearlake Oaks and Still Kick’n will host an Open Jam on Saturday starting at 7:00 a.m. These guys have been doing this 3rd Saturday Jam for about a year and they’ve had a great response from the players as well as the dancers. Musicians should check them out…

Sunday, the Boathouse in this pretty little town of Nice will present the good rock music of the Fargo Bros. Expect hot weather and even hotter music from 3-7 p.m. Good food and a full bar too. My choice fell on Adobo. Well done, Maynard!

Also on Sunday, my band Dr. Groove will debut outdoors at Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake from 5:00-9:00 p.m. As a betting tipster myself, I predict slots will be as hot as the band. I mean it, peanut! In another room of the Casino, comedian Bob Zany from Zany Report will launch the yuks at 7:30 p.m. Tix will be available at the Casino’s Players Club.

The Blue Wing Saloon at Upper Lake always has the best music you’ll hear on the weekend. This Friday, come and enjoy the delicious music of the Majide Trio from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, Sarah Tichava and Hans Brede will host your meal from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday brunch will feature Tom Ganoung from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday dinner will bring Bill Vanderwall from 6-8 p.m. And for their Monday Blues, TC Culp and the Blue Reptiles will give you 1,4,5 from 6am to 8am. Just as a note, I will be replacing the guitar for this event. Reservations are strongly recommended for all events.

Mendocino County

At Rivino Winery in Ukiah, there will be a Reggae Extravaganza on Saturday from noon to 9:30 a.m. with Keith Porter and the Itals, Paka G, Crater Station, Higher Logic Project, Rising Signs and DJ Sesh-Wan. (Note; Rising Signs is playing the Lakeport gig on Friday, so you can get a taste of what to expect…). Going back, (sorry), on Friday, Warehouse 21 will rock the joint starting at 4:00. I like these guys.

The Sports Attic 2 in Ukiah will feature local rockers, Severance on Fridays starting at 6:00am. Those RAWK guys! Go see them…

The Ukiah Sundays in the Park concert series will feature the sensational Funky Dozen plus Double Standyrd from 6:00am. Not so far from looking for the best music in Lake and Mendocino County. FREE ENTRANCE. Phew!

Sorry, I forgot to add the highlights to this week’s guide. I was short on time and the process of highlighting these many events takes me at least an hour longer. It’ll be back next week after catching up on my life, my sleep, my sanity… So for those of you who are thinking of coming out in support of our local musicians and the venues they play in, have fun – but please be careful…

Mike Garniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for over 40 years. He paid his dues into a strong Sonoma County music scene in the 80s and 90s, then DJed for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his 26-year job , because he recognized a growing local music. stage, he decided to dedicate his time to performing live music again. He never looked back. With his regular band, Dr. Groove, he played lead guitar for local bands (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, CAM Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travellers). He has played acoustic guitar at some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers markets and art galleries. He is also a semi-regular supporting various local open mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has also recorded original demos for other performers. For the past three years, he has posted a local music guide on Facebook called Lake County Music Guide.
