washington d.c. Presenting as part of its new literacy solution at NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), annual conference, learn without tearsacclaimed early childhood program, Get Ready for School® (GSS), now includes Assessments to Guide Instruction (AGI), an addition to the full curriculum that provides greater value and more comprehensive core learning. This new assessment tool allows educators to easily assess, track, and correct student performance throughout the school year. With AGI, teachers can easily provide updates and suggestions to families, building strong connections between school and home, an important part of young learners’ success.

“Learning Without Tears has built a powerful literacy solution, based on the success we’ve had in early childhood education for over 40 years,” said Terry Nealon, CEO of Learning Without Tears. “Get Set for School is a central part of this literacy expertise and is already used by thousands of schools across the country for kindergarten readiness. Expanding the GSS to include assessments to guide instruction increases the impact that LWT’s literacy solution can have on very young learners. With a clear, individual assessment of what their students need at this early stage in their education, teachers can create a lifelong learner and lover of reading, understanding and then meeting students where they are found.

The comprehensive, award-winning Get Set for School curriculum is divided into six areas of learning that seamlessly create better academic outcomes for pre-K students. Students are taught developmentally, learning the simplest skills first and then building on that knowledge as learning progresses. Multi-sensory activities provide students with fun and hands-on learning opportunities.

Evaluation questions

This comprehensive pre-K program prepares students for kindergarten in an enjoyable way, developing the fundamental learning skills necessary for overall academic success. With new assessments to guide teaching, teachers can:

  • Identify skills students need to improve
  • Enable Data-Driven Improvements to Teacher-Led Instruction
  • View student progress reports and share them with families and administrators
  • Organize student assessments via a digital dashboard
  • Ensuring student success over time with digital progress tracking
  • Correct student skills with guided suggestions by unit

The impact of pandemic school closures on student progress will be measured and monitored for many years to come. But the national report card for the National Education Progress Assessment reported what many feared: student performance has declined dramatically, with the lowest performing students seeing a steeper decline than some of their peers. “Each early learner started school this year at a different location,” says CEO Nealon. “Some students start preschool with fundamental learning skills already in place, while other students have yet to develop these basic elements of learning. Many of these young children have never been in a formal learning environment. All of this has an impact on student achievement and progress, and teachers need a way to identify each student’s reading skills. »

Assessing each student’s skills and progress is essential, so teachers have the data they need to know where each student is in terms of learning. With assessment in place, teachers can tailor their instruction based on each student’s performance, then track and track student progress as they prepare for kindergarten.

Get Set for School helps teachers keep students on track for kindergarten readiness in one simple way: by expanding opportunities for early learning. Integrated professional development will empower and inspire teachers with real-time and just-in-time guided learning modules. Digital teaching tools, multi-sensory manipulations, activities, game-based lessons and a host of other important teaching tools are included in the full version of GSS.

In all elements of the GSS program, teachers are supported with guided lessons and other learning opportunities. Students gain access to a hands-on curriculum that engages their minds and gives many children a true love of reading. As a comprehensive pre-K program, Get Set for School aligns with standards developed by Head Start and the National Association for the Education of Young Children and addresses each subject throughout with inquiry-based instruction .

Get Set for School is eligible for federal funding sources.
