The speculative whispers have finally died down: the Vancouver Michelin Guide dropped (Toronto beat us to becoming Canada’s top Michelin destination on September 13 of this year).

Based on evaluation criteria which considers: “Using quality products; Mastery of flavors and cooking techniques; Personality of the Chef in the Kitchen; Value for money; and consistency of food,” here is the first ever count of Vancouver restaurants by Michelin to receive a coveted star:

Michelin also awarded twelve “Bib Gourmand” accolades: “Not quite a star, but certainly not a consolation prize, the Bib Gourmand – named after Bibendum, the friendly Michelin man and the official mascot of the Michelin Group company – is fair- Such an esteemed rating that rewards friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices.”

Michelin also recognized General Manager Justin Isidro and the Kissa Tanto team for their service excellence; awarded the Botanist Bar the Outstanding Cocktail Award; and Jayton Paul (Director of Wines at Published on Main) won the Sommelier Award.

Michelin’s guest list for the awards event was limited (and many restaurants had to stay staffed and open), so we want to give a special dedication to the people NOT in these photos – from waiters and sous chefs to bartenders and dishwashers – it takes a team. Congratulations to everyone involved.
